Frequently asked questions
Some project decisions are intentionally conservative so the application stays reliable and understandable.
Can I add my own text?
Yes. Bible passages in collections can have comments attached to them. You can also add free-form content as companion texts.
Why do I need an account?
You do not “have to”; you “get to” 😉. You can read the Bible without signing in.
An account is required to save Bible passages in collections and associate learning progress with you. Some Bible translations are also subject to license terms that restrict anonymous public access. Signing in is therefore required for this content as well.
Your personal data is processed in accordance with our privacy policy. It also explains which external services are involved in certain features. You can delete your account yourself at any time.
Where is my data stored?
Bible passages, collections, tags, and notes are stored in your account on the server. This lets you access them from different devices using the same account.
Can a family use several accounts?
Yes. Each person can use their own account with their own list, collections, and notes.
Which devices does HeartWord support?
HeartWord currently runs in the browser on as many devices as possible. Native apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and Android are in development; I hope to make them available in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Can I translate the interface?
This is mainly intended for the later desktop apps: they should provide language files as JSON so new languages can be added directly. Anyone trying a new language can edit the file and submit it as a proposal - the translation is then applied across all platforms.
Is HeartWord only about memorization?
No. Some passages can be memorized, while others can mainly be collected, tagged, annotated, and found again when needed. Features such as cross-references and Strong’s numbers also make the app useful for Bible study. And “proclamation collections” can help equip you for everyday life.
